Early California Speaks

Early California Speaks is a living history program that chronicles the earliest days of the region that encompasses modern-day California and Baja California.

It features a series of theatrical presentations that brings to life the historical figures and stories that helped to shape the Old West.

We wish to acknowledge the generous financial support of Eastside Arts Initiative and Telasofa given to help make Early California Speaks a reality.
PRESENTATIONS

Early California Speaks offers presentations in period costumes through a series of approximately 10-minute renditions.

Presentations can be customized to your program or event.

Follow-up lessons for multiple academic levels are also available for students between elementary school and college.

Victor C. Contreras
The one-person theatrical presentations feature Victor Crosthwaite Contreras, a descendent of a founding family of San Diego, a veteran actor with three decades of film, television and stage credits, a long-time educator and the founder of Early California Speaks. Contreras is a long-time member of the Descendants of Old Town San Diego, has also performed at Old Town at various times during his career, and is uniquely qualified to weave the history of the park with that of the city and state. Other performers include professional actors, descendants of early California families, educators, and docents with focus on California history.
